Caring Advice for Caregivers Don't be afraid to ask for help. When someone says, "What can I do to help," say, "would you relieve me for a couple of hours so I can go shopping." Friends and family often want to help but don't know how.
Don't forget to make time for yourself. Remember that as a caregiver you need support too, not to mention a vacation or an afternoon off.
If you need help, check into community as well as national resources. These can provide practical advice and helpful information. Refer to the list of organizations above.
Join a support group. Many organizations, like Cancer Care, have nationwide networks (including e-mail) of support groups as well as informational and inspirational newsletters. |
